2 1/2 years old!

The day before Halloween our little man turned 2 1/2.  I really loved Jaris and Maisy's costume this year, I was a little worried JT wouldn't wear the mask but he did great and they were a hit!

Jaris is officially in a big boy bed (long overdue).  Instead of buying a twin or a full we just used our guest bed and bought a frame for it.  Yes a queen is obviously big for him but it's a fairly new mattress so it will last and an overall cheaper option which is always better right?  I knew when we got him a bed Maisy would be on there asap.  The first morning I woke up to check on him and of course, she was there at the foot of his bed.  Now she goes to bed with him every night and I couldn't love it more.  He is so sweet to her and she lets him do whatever he wants...tackle, wrestle, snuggle.  I'm sure people get tired of my Jaris/Maisy pictures but I can't get enough :)

Last week he had his 2 1/2 year check up.  He's a measly 29 pounds and 36" tall.  He didn't have to get any shots but he did get the flu mist and did fine.  Dr. Kelley was very impressed with his vocabulary, speech, and that he is potty trained including nights!  The only thing we need to do is make him drink more milk.  He's like Brett and drinks a ton of water.
He is really testing the waters with Brett and I to see what exactly he can get away with.  He thinks everything is funny and he likes to tell me when he's doing something he should be.  The other day I asked him to stop throwing his cars and instead roll them along the floor (at least 2 times) and I walked in the kitchen only to hear JT say, "I'm doing it mom, I'm throwing them!"  Seriously?!  Last night he had to go to time out and my sisters were there.  He was suppose to be up against the wall and after tell him not to move 3 times we hear him say, "I'm walking backwards Tee-Tay," to my sister.  It's so hard not to laugh sometimes!  I'm not sure where he learned this but when I'm explaining to him what he did and why we don't do it he will sometimes say in a high pitched, cute little voice, "you look cute mommy!" I can't help but laugh every time to which he then says, "it's funny mommy?"  He's too funny.

Gym class has started again and it's basically a free for-all, we try to get him to do the stations and he will sometimes but he is constantly chasing another little boy, Wyatt, to tackle him.  Jaris is always the one taking him down and poor Wyatt is just trying to escape!  He has fun and it's a great way to get some energy out.

He's got a lot of personality and we are having so much fun watching him show it.

Behind and lots to catch up on!

I'm so behind and we've been busy lately so I'll pick up where we left off and give a mini
summary of everything!
Jaris is potty trained!  We decided to use the "3 Day Method" for training and we did it the last weekend of September.  After following the book to a "T" by the end of the second day Brett and I were ready to give up.  Most boys don't get it until around 2 1/2-3 years old and he wasn't even 2 1/2 yet so I thought we will just try again in a a couple of months.  Brett said lets give it the 3rd day and decide after that.  He did great on the 3rd day!  We decided that we would keep him home from day care for the rest of that week and continue working with him at home.  By the end of the week he was good!  I'm so proud of him and love watching him accomplish something so exciting!  I said, "I'm so proud of you" at least 1,000 times during training that he started saying it back to me when he would go, it was hilarious! We had our first venture outside the house for my birthday dinner and he was accident free!  Nights are good as long as I wake him up to go at some point throughout the night because he drinks water before bed every night, a habit I just can't break.  He's so funny when I wake him up, he's half asleep on the potty, head resting on my shoulder and he whispers every time, "it's coming."  And then he goes right back to sleep!  He did great when he stayed the weekend in Tulsa with no accidents and this past weekend he had tummy issues and made about 4,000 trips to the potty for #2 (sorry tmi) but he didn't have a single accident...very proud momma!  Being diaper free is soooo nice!

We went to the American Royal Rodeo!  We would go as kids every once in a while and it was always fun and we wanted to get Jaris out of the house since we had been couped up potty training.  The Budweiser Clydesdale's were there as well as the dalmatian, you couldn't touch them but they were beautiful!  They had a petting zoo, a bounce house, roping bails, and even a mechanical bull which of course I had to ride.  Last time I rode one I was intoxicated and celebrating my bachelorette party, needless to say I didn't stay on long this time but Jaris got a kick out of it!  About half way through the rodeo Jaris was over it but he made it to the bull riding part which they always save until the end and liked that.

A quick shout out to the hubs: my grandpa made me a doll cradle when I was little.  We were very very close and when he passed away unexpectedly when I was 11 I put it away so I could keep it forever.  It had gotten beat up a little bit from playing with it and I had stuck a ninja turtle sticker on the end :) and so I had asked Brett years ago to fix it up.  Well he did it in secret and it looks great, it means more to me than he'll ever know.

Had fun at Late Night even though it was super hot.

My favorite fall tradition is going to the pumpkin patch.  Shaake's is amazing, it was really fun this year to watch Jaris search for and pick out his pumpkin.  He went with a baby green pumpkin, made me smile.  Just like last year he really loved the tractors and was pumped to ride them.  I'm really excited to watch him trick-or-treat this year, last year he did good but I think he will really be eager this year.  I went with another "duo" costume so that Maisy could be apart of it and I'm hoping it's as cute as I'm envisioning!

Every year Brett and I try to make a Cowboys game down in Arlington.  It gives us a chance to get out of town for the weekend and have some couple time.  This year we decided to drive down and drop Jaris off in Tulsa so he could stay with his cousins.  He had a BLAST and I know he didn't even think of us the whole time, which is fine I'm glad he had fun!

Brett and I drove down to Fort Worth very early Saturday morning to make it to the KU/TCU game.  Personally, I love road trips but Brett is not a fan.  I know I made it even more enjoyable by singing for him the whole way :)  We met our friend Neil and his girlfriend Mallory, along with Brett's dad for the game.  Of course it had to be the HOTTEST day of fall, with no cloud coverage, and we were sitting on metal bleachers.  Just walking up the steps to our seat was enough to make me sweat all of my make up off and uncurl my hair.  It was 102 and HUMID.  People were fainting!  It was nuts so we ended up watching from the concourse area of the stadium along with the rest of the fans!

We were staying with Neil so we headed back to their house, we were suppose to go out that night.  I never have been that girl that likes to "go out."  I'm a homebody when it comes to the night life!  So secretly I was hoping something else would come up...and thankfully it did!  Neil's sister came over, she and Mallory had been working on a 2,000 piece puzzle over the past few weeks and got me sucked in.  Yes puzzling...and after a few glasses of wine and pizza it was too late to go out so we stayed home.  It was actually a lot of fun to talk about old high school stuff, kids, husbands and married stuff with adults and be in comfy clothes while doing it!
We headed into Arlington the next day and went straight to our favorite for lunch.  Rosa's Cafe and Tortilla Factory.  I have been craving this like a pregnant lady forever so I was running in the door.  Brett even got a second plate!  We got some tortillas to go and they were gone by the second day we were home, other tortillas just do not compare!  I'm now trying to figure out how I can open one here in town :)

We went to Brett's aunt's house, I slept off my food coma and then we headed to the game.  Brett's aunt is a season ticket holder and has been gracious enough to give us tickets every year and we are so thankful that she does, we love going.  This year one of my sisters old friends started working for the Cowboys and so I sent her a text saying we would be there and would love to say hi.  Not only did we say hi but she got us passes to the Miller Lite Club.  Field level suites behind the Cowboy's bench.  Brett and I were there early so there was no one standing in front of us and it was awesome!  We were about 10 feet away from the players, had full on bar service, and watched the end of a press conference with Roger Goodell.  It was a whole new game day experience and it was awesome!  We went up to our seats at the start of the 4th quarter, we both got a little tired from standing.  Thank you Jenna it was so fun!  We left Monday morning to pick up JT and headed home.

Heading into my busy season with photography.  Trying to get all the clutter out of the house, I hate having stuff around I don't use, I don't keep anything so a yard sale is in our near future.  All of the rooms are done except the basement.  Jaris started his gymnastics class again and still only likes to run up and down the trampoline.  Getting excited for Halloween!  That's all for now!

Busy weekend!

We had a fun and busy weekend to kick off the fall season!  Friday night Brett and I headed to the Rangers/Royals game for his b-day.  It was PERFECT weather and we had AWESOME seats!  Brett and I love going to baseball games...it's relaxing with all the fun stuff like hot dogs and beer, wouldn't mind being season ticket holders some day!  It was nice to be doing something just Brett and I that wasn't a quick dinner out.  Jaris got to stay over and grammy and papa's.  When I came to pick him up the next morning he said, "don't take me home mommy."  Glad he had fun!

We were on tv twice (bottom right pic)!  We are such a good looking couple they couldn't resist :)
Next up was the KU football game.  The morning started off cool but it quickly warmed up.  I really like the morning games because a breakfast tailgate is the best!  All the breakfast casseroles and mimosas, you can't go wrong!  Kelly and the boys were in town so JT had a blast running around with them in the kid zone.  He wasn't feeling the game too much, he woke up early at my parents house so I think he was a little grumpy, we ended up leaving at the start of the 4th quarter and missed the 52 yard field goal to win the game!

My high school reunion was also that afternoon.  Originally we planned on leaving the game early to go there but Jaris was having too much fun with the boys and because he was a little grumpy we just went home for a nap before our next event.  My mom had planned for us to go to the stock car races outside of Topeka that night.  It was entertaining and JT loved it...not our normal crowd but it was fun.  We didn't get home until around 9:30 so it was a pretty long day for us!

please excuse Brett's cheek full of sunflower seeds

Sunday was so nice.  A great church service, lunch with my mother in law, Cowboys won, put JT down for a nap, picked up the house, took small nap, and then we had my family over for BLT's and corn on the cob.  It was too nice to be eating inside and having people over is one of my favorite things to do.

We are going to conquer potty training this weekend using the "3 day" method so wish us luck!

Things to remember.

Things to remember at almost 2 1/2 years old...
Still obsessed with cars, trucks, motorcycles...
Really into Buzz and Woody, loves to say "to infinity and beyond!"...
Starting to get picky about clothes (especially his pj's), will wear only ankle socks, and only a certain color at night (usually black, blue or green Nike socks)...
Really testing the limits with mom and dad...volunteers to go to timeout when we threaten it and pretty much laughs anytime mom tries to punish...
Talks so good...validated by my mother in law who's a teacher :)  The kids vocab is fantastic and he talks in full sentences all the time.  Repeats everything after you say it.  Conversations with him are a hoot...
Still very particular about everything.  "Mommy sit there, mommy put your feet up"  "I need a snack on a plate mommy"  "Daddy you have this race car"  "I need new (aka colder) water please"  Things have to be in the perfect place, cars "parked" in a row, blankets in certain spots in his bed, and on and on...
Favorite sayings..."Daddy working out the kids?"  "Mommy what you doining" (and yes doining is how he says it, adorable).   "Daddy come play with me in the playroom."  "I ride papa's motorcycle?" (and then doesn't want to even sit on it). The things he says and the way he says things are hilarious...
Eats really well still and cheeseburgers are still the favorite, likes animal crackers, goldfish crackers, donuts, eggs, fruit, rice, chicken strips, mommas cupcakes, chips and salsa, mexican food...
New favorite activity is dance parties before bed, also my new favorite.  And he has all the classic "white boy" moves...
His relationship with Maisy grows more adorable by the day...
Loves to play hide and seek but like most 2 year olds laughs while hiding...
Loves to wrestle/tackle dad and play cars with mom...
He has a HUGE personality.  A little shy when new people are around but crazy, very loud, energetic, smart, sweet, ornery little boy.
I count my blessings every single day with him.

Come on fall!

I'm so beyond ready for fall!  Football is finally here, now I'm ready for sweaters, boots, leggings, scarves, pumpkins, cider, hot chocolate, all that fall is about.  I finally had a somewhat free weekend so I decorated for fall to help usher in the season!  It was so nice on Saturday to just clean the house, get all the fun stuff up, and make it smell delicious thanks to Yankee's apple pumpkin scent (heavenly).

Saturday was also Brett's birthday! He and I went out to dinner Friday night at one of our favorites, Carmen's in Leawood.  So good!  We walked around for a little bit after dinner and then went over to my sisters house to see her new kitten, ask my new bestie.

Saturday he relaxed and watched football and then we went to dinner with family that night.  Nothing crazy, birthdays kind of fizzle down as you get older :)  For his gift I got him tickets to the Royals/Rangers game Friday night which is what we did last year but this year it's just him and I...no suite.  We have pretty good seats about 7 rows up from the Rangers dugout.  Really looking forward to that game and hopefully the Rangers can win after their recent string of losses.
Last year :)
That was about it for the weekend, church on Sunday and more football...tis the season!
Just some iPhone pictures to upload:
I melt.

Patiently waiting for his food :)

Got some new "Buzz and Woody toys" as JT calls them.

Please ignore the red comforter, our duvet is at the dry cleaners!

Did a little grocery shopping before the weekend :)
Out on the boat last Sunday (w/o a choking accident thankfully).

Loves his books!
iPads are awesome, he LOVES and is a master at his puzzles. He learns a lot from that little thing!
